Sautter + Lackmann was founded in 1970 by Hinrich and Gisela Sautter. We opened our first shop in Hamburg’s Eppendorf district. From the beginning we specialized in Fine Arts, Architecture and all adjacent areas. Over the years, we grew to become one of the leading specialist bookstores in these areas and gained a reputation beyond the borders of Hamburg.

In 1989, the original rooms were too narrow for the abundance of our offer. In the course of the revitalization of the Fleetinsel, the opportunity arose between Admiralitätstraße and Herrengrabenfleet to move into new, more generous spaces: in a former warehouse remodeled by Bernhard Winking, a rich, international range of books on art, architecture and graphic design is presented today in wall-to-ceiling shelves. In addition to magnificent illustrated books from all these areas, we offer a wide range of both theoretical and practical manuals.

Since 2006, the company has been run by Florian Sautter in the second generation.
